Agent Services Contract Extended CWA District 7 Vice President Annie Hill and Reed Roberts met with Corporate
Labor on a number of issues. We have served our data request for the employer to produce all the information on which they are relying. Once we have that information, your bargaining committee will meet in Denver to begin formulating our responses. The committee will then set up a conference call to outline our ongoing strategy. We need all of our Qwest members to show their support for Agent Services Our fellow CWA brothers and sisters who work at Qwest Agent Services (411 operators), are about to begin contract negotiations and need your help. Even though these workers have won the prestigious “top performer” award from the Paisley National Directory Assistance Performance Index six consecutive times over the past three years, Qwest has indicated that they wish to create a new lower paid job classification for these workers in this round of bargaining. Some other Qwest members have expressed their desire to show support for their fellow CWA members, and will be sending emails to Michael Lynch (Michael.Lynch@qwest.com) and Robert Joga (Robert.Joga@qwest.com) the week of August 13-17 to coincide with a Payday action that the Agent Services members will be doing. We encourage all Qwest members to join in this action, and show Qwest that an injury to one is an injury to all! IMPORTANT NOTICE: EMAILS SHOULD NOT BE SENT FROM YOUR QWEST WORK EMAIL ADDRESS. THEY
SHOULD ONLY BE SENT FROM PERSONAL OR UNION EMAIL ADDRESS ACCOUNTS. IF YOU
DON’T HAVE A PERSONAL EMAIL, YOU CAN GET A FREE EMAIL ACCOUNT AT YAHOO OR
HOTMAIL.COM. The
following is some sample language that you can use for the emails: Dear Mr. _______, As an employee of Qwest, I am deeply concerned about Qwest’s public image and the overall success of our company. Unfortunately, most of the media reports about Qwest in the past year have reflected a very negative view of Qwest because of the misdeeds of a few. That’s why I was so pleased to learn that Qwest recently announced its sixth consecutive ranking as the top performer for directory-assistance services according to the Paisley National Directory Assistance Performance Index. I believe that this is the kind of good news that can restore public trust in Qwest, and show that the overwhelming majority of Qwest employees are professionals, who are deeply committed to excellence and customer satisfaction. It is my understanding that these six time award-winning Qwest employees will soon begin negotiations on their next contract. It is also my understanding that senior Qwest management has been suggesting that their wages should be reduced from the already minimal rates that they now earn! It is inconceivable to me that Qwest would even consider penalizing the workers who have worked so hard to embody “the Spirit of Service”. I stand unified with my co-workers at Agent Services, and urge you to remember that “the number one operators deserve the number one contract”.
