March/2005
March has been a regular month for the office of treasurer. Rather boring considering the start of the year but a little boredom is refreshing after so much excitement. We are gearing up for contract negotiations on several contracts this year and learning to cope with the loss of income from the Qwest surplus from this past fall.
February/2005
Although the year 2005 started out with some unexpected events, with a united team with the good of the local at heart, things have turned out well. Here are some highlights from my office:
An investigator from the Federal DOL came to inspect the local’s financial records due to several anonymous complaints. The investigator spent 2 days with me and ended up having to take the records from October 2002 through July 2003 back to Denver with her. Updates on this situation will be given as I receive information. No other information is available yet. I look at this as a positive thing as this audit will give us a fresh start with a clean slate and assure us we are on track and running smooth.
With the assistance of Laurel Hunter, a budget is up and running and was approved by the membership present at February’s meeting.
I have also been very fortunate – along with the rest of the executive board – to have been trained on handling issues from all the companies that the local represents.
